April is National Volunteer Month From its beginnings in 2011, the board of directors has strived to help break the stigma of homelessness in our rural communities. It has been almost two years now since we purchased the former convent and all property on the east side of Heart Island Parkway. We have new spaces for our Continued Care Housing Program residents. We have a garage to house our van and lawn care equipment. We are very thankful. At the same time, we find that it is a huge responsibility to take care of this property. Our response to this has been to create a volunteer program with opportunities for the community to get involved. Our past experience has validated that volunteers can be the backbone to keeping things running smoothly at Benjamin’s House. Volunteers greatly extend the range, quality, and variety of our programs and services. We will strive to provide training, supervision, and support for those who participate. We have prepared a handbook to give you some essential information about our opportunities, policies, and expectations. To get started, here is a link to the revised Handbook for Volunteers. We look forward to helping you find those opportunities. Sincerely, Friends of Benjamin's House Volunteers are the Backbone |

Resident Success "Domestic Violence is what caused us to come to Benjamin's house..."" I have become a more confident mom and my kids are opening up and sleeping better at night. I have watched my kids go from sleeping curled up in balls to being stretched out and sleeping through the night. I understand that it's due to the effort I have put in, but I would not have come this far without the support of the staff. When I was struggling they were there for me anytime day or night. I will always be grateful for the support and the friends I have made along the way. You guys are truly special and with your help I have achieved a dream that I have struggled for a long time to achieve." ~Resident 2024 |
